Music
I like, first of all, Dire Straits, but only the old albums like
"Love Over Gold",
"Communiqué", "Making Movies", "Brothers in Arms" and "Money for
Nothing". Can't stand the newer ones.
Then comes a strange mix of Glen Miller, Strauss' Waltz, Queen, ABBA,
The Police, Moreira da Silva, Chico Buarque, Renaissance, Marillion, Ayreon, Elton John (specially the album -- not necessarily the song -- "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road")
Village People, Rush, Simon & Garfunkel, Joe Satriani, Beatles, Italian

Movies
Easier to enumerate what I don't like: Woody
Allen or most of the dramas. My favorite of all time is probably is Murder By Death.
TV
Galaxy (not Power) Rangers, rated by me as the BEST cartoon show ever.
I used to watch Starman, The Greatest American Hero (very much), Manimal, Automan
and Parker Lewis... well, all that good old-fashioned series. I usually can't stand japanese productions or american that try to be like that japanese, although they have been improving their stories (less random events). Take Howl's Moving Castle, for example. That's a nice piece of japanimation.
Country
Canada, of course (see goals).
Europe? Hmm.. I'm almost old enough to appreciate it : )
I don't know much about Australia, but it may be a good country to
visit tho. I'll ask a friend of a friend...
Brazil certainly isn't the place for me. Even though I think that
it isn't for anyone, there are people that love it there.
Really, it has some pretty nice landscapes, most of the people have good
skills to get out of bad situations, they're all superficially nice, but it's difficult to bear with a place
where everyone is trying to show how smart they are by doing anti-society-life things
such as cutting lines, or bear with the excessive protection given to criminals
while the decent people have to lock themselves in fortresses or how the
law people and politicians are full of privileges while they spoil every chance of justice.
These are just a few of many many reasons why I think this country doesn't
deserve people like me. As we say down there, "last to leave please turn off the lights".
Books
Best book so far: Dune (Frank Herbert). The first volume has an incredibly good sci-fi story, plus a breathtaking pace. The sequels are good, but I don't think they keep up with the first volume.
Agatha Christie: finished off my mom's collection of about 40 volumes and concluded that the one I liked most was "The Hollow Mansion".
Foundation series (Isaac Asimov): interesting, but not particularly brilliant. Special note for the first Foundation volume, which is quite good.
Caves of Steel (Isaac Asimov): once again, interesting, but not particularly brilliant.
The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series (J.R.R. Tolkien): quite good. I still put Dune above those, but they'are quite close in quality.
Les Fourmis (Bernard Weber): very interesting, but the pace's a bit slow in the beginning.
Ender's Game (Orson Scott Gard): very nice too. Would be like Dune, if the environment wasn't so restricted. The pace is as good as Dune's. The story's very very good too. I'm deeply thankful to Philippe Weltz for lending a french version of it to me.
(In general) Howard Fast, Frederick Forsyth...
Hate list (small, I know...):
Ubik: unbearable slow pace, horrible connection between events.
